My Life Mission Statement

A Living Mission
Yesterday in Joanne Waldman’s AC2 class Advanced Coaching Techniques she shared a resource with us. It is a website that will support you in creating your Life Mission Statement After class I went on the site and completed my own mission statement. Here it is:

My Kickstart Mission Statement:
I will dedicate myself to what I love and am passionate about.
I will love and cherish Will.
I will love and accept my mom.
I will be loyal to myself and others.
I will embrace humor!
I will trust.
I will allow money to enter into my coaching practice.
I will laugh from deep within my belly without holding back.
I will love myself and others openly.
I will use courage to support me in taking the next healthy risk.
I will do things that bring meaning to my life.
I will speak the truth to myself and others with loving compassion.
I will love openly as a gift to myself and others.
I will be willing to grow, to learn and to evolve.

I was surprised at how quickly I created my mission statement; it only took about 10 minutes. Could my life purpose be summed up so quickly? Apparently! In looking back at it, I love how simple it is. The one that surprises me the most is “I will allow money to enter into my coaching practice.” When I was filling out the questionnaire I was embarrassed that money came to mind so quickly on one of the questions. I almost thought of something else to put instead. But, I’m glad I trusted the process enough to put down my first thought because the statement is so powerful!

I love my mission statement! Are you ready to create one for yourself?

Please allow me to reframe My Life Mission Statement…

I love and cherish my partner, Will.

  1. Wahoo, what a great mission statement. thank you for sharing it with us. I will got to the web site right away.
I love the line ” I will love and accept my mom”.
Relationship is such a huge part of our happiness. We have the tendency to forget that we can choose to have great relationship. Love is an action verb not a feeling !

  2. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Christine! I think love is an action verb AND a feeling :~)

Well done of setting up the vision for your life.

I remember a song lyric, which reminds me of the process…

“Sometimes finding out exactly what you want, is like trying to divide ice from snow”

The hard part know, I guess, is living to your vision, when the world may tell you otherwise, or circumstances cry out against you.

But I also think that striving for your goals, and finding ways to achieve them, are what bring meaning to life. And because they are your goals, when you do get them, you are getting something valuable.

  4. Hi! I think your life mission statement is beautiful. It is is both beautiful in its simplicity and because it comes from your heart. Thank you very much for sharing it.

I was wondering a few things…. how do you think this mission statement will be most useful to you and were there any unexpected emotions that came up when you changed everything to the present tense?

I did visit the website, but was unable to access the instructions for creating the mission statement, even after downloading the flash player. I will keep trying!

Thanks for your inspiration! Oh yes, and thank you for visiting my blog too!

  5. Hi Cassandra – I think your life mission statement is beautiful. It is beautiful in its simplicity and because it comes from your heart! Thank you for sharing it.

I was wondering a few things… how do you think this life mission statement will be of most use to you in your daily life and did you experience any unexpected emotions when you shifted the wording of it into the present tense?

In some ways, your life mission statement reminds me of the vision board a student in class mentioned the other day. She did not use her vision board for material things she hopes to have, but more for states of emotional being that she hopes to achieve. She called it her emotional vision board. She said she had her doubts about making one, but it turned out to be quite powerful. Maybe next you can try adding a visual element to each statement?

By the way, I did visit the web site, but was unable to access the directions for creating the mission statement even after downloading the flash player. I will keep trying!

    Thanks for your continued inspiration!

  6. Just one more thing I wanted to say in response to Dave’s comment – I think that sometimes even when you don’t achieve a goal – the process itself or the journey, is very valuable and may oftentimes be what was truly intended for you!

  7. Hi Cindi & Dave ~

Thank you both for stopping by and adding your insights!

I see my life vision statement as a snapshot of my values at this time in my life. It is important to have a record – almost like a map – of where I am and where I have been. Having it written down is an awesome way to be reminded and to see growth.

I decided to reframe my vision statement to the present tense because having it in the “I will” perspective felt like they weren’t yet a part of me. It feels powerful to own them right now. It’s not a matter of finding these qualities outside of me. It is a matter of allowing them to grow and flourish inside of me!

I love the idea of a vision board and I am going to do one this week to help me get organized with all of the projects I have going on. I have a lot on my plate right now and I need to prioritize. So I am going to write it all out on a big posterboard to see in one place what I am working on and what needs to go into each project. I tend to think I can do everything all at at the same time! Once I have a better picture about everything I’m doing I will create a next step plan.

    Thanks again Guys!

Cindi – I agree. Better to be heading towards something you think you value, and then find out that you were mistaken, or that it is unreachable, than to just wander aimlessly, hoping for the best.
